You know, I haven't been a DA member long, but already I'm noticing some rather disturbing trends. I've always thought this site to be unique, at least in its infancy, and a great outlet for artists. But, with any amount of people, comes the dumbass. I see so many extremely worthy artists getting cast to the wind, in favour of a naked picture of some stick-girl with glasses whose entire gallery is pictures of herself. Of course I live, breathe, and shit, "to each his own" but there has to be someone else out there that notices these things. This isn't about me. There has to be someone that wants to give recognition STRICTLY to" those that deserve it, and no one else. There will be no pity-votes from me. I do not want to read the praise people somehow bend over and pull from their asses on nothing but pornography. "Great composition, great lighting, oh yes, and I can see your birth canal!" I, personally believe that for something to be art, it must have a central idea behind it. I refuse to breed this celebration of mediocrity. We've had too much of that. I realize that "art" is always subjective and personal, but this isn't about that. This is about the merits of effort. True effort. Art with a purpose, not art for the sake of praise and DA popularity (as if it were truly important). From now on, I'm going to do my part to push for the real artists striving to show the world through their eyes, striving for meaning through expression...and you should to. Plus I will personally SHOOT the next person I see that favorites a picture of a naked girl simply because it gives 'em a hard-on. Come ON.
